2017 Lexus RX – Confirmed Three-row RX Coming

True to its word the North American branch of the Japanese auto maker makes good on its trend of delivering a refresh every two years or so. This time it is the luxury crossover 2017 Lexus RX that last made waves back in 2015 with its new sheet metal and upgraded cabin. The powertrain was limited to one engine only, although it came with either a six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission. The power output may not have been exactly on par with competitive models in the segment but was ample enough with solid acceleration and fuel ratings.

The cabin got a new touchscreen and a rear view camera, plus well chosen quality materials and generous cargo space. With the new RX the crossover will simply receive a few touches on the exterior, front and back, in addition to a new heated steering wheel and upgraded sound system which will offer 15 instead of 12 speakers as standard.

The attractive fascia features clean smooth lines that are all carried over from the predecessor. The huge spindle grille has grown in size over the years, and the new iteration will likely keep the dimensions unchanged lest it implodes on itself due to its size. New are, however, the angular three-way pointed headlamps with L-shaped LED daytime running lights as well as optional HID lights, which are repeated on the rear. The flared fender look somewhat taller than the last time, probably with a view of housing new standard 19-inch alloy wheels sporting a new spoke design. Otherwise, the same tall beltline and muscular haunches highlight the athletic styling of the 2017 Lexus RX. Following the updates on the exterior, the automaker has rightly decided to keep the luxurious and spacious model carried over from the 2015 RX unchanged, with just one exception – the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel now has an independent heating system. The audio system has also been upgraded to the brand new Mark Levinson Surround Sound that includes 15 speakers.

Powertrain

Under the bonnet, the 2017 Lexus RX will most likely include the same 3.5-liter V6 delivering 270 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. The last time the engine came with a six- and eight-speed automatic and front and all-wheel drive. However, we can expect a slight improvement on the output, say 20-25 ponies more, as well as bumped up fuel ratings of up to 28 mpg combined.
