The 2017 Toyota Etios comes as a brand new sedan and hatchback subcompact built exclusively for Indian and as of recently South American and Indonesian markets. Despite its fuel efficiency, durability and comfort, the Etios has not performed quite as well as Toyota expected.
The reason for this could be the Etios’s somewhat bland design, which hasn’t found much favour with young Asian and South American urbanites Toyota was targeting. Now with the brand new Etios Toyota is hoping to turn things around. The updates will not be limited to the sheet metal only but will include the cabin as well, in addition to improvements to the current Etios powertrain.
Exterior and Interior
Although the 2017 Toyota Etios has been built on the Toyota Yaris chassis, it has always featured an exterior as well as interior design all its own. It probably a good thing that Toyota has decided to ditch the boxy design of the outgoing model and move toward a more contemporary and aerodynamic lines. The new look features a restyled, more aggressive front fascia, new LED daytime running lights with possibly Xenon adaptive headllamps as ptional on advanced trims. The 16-inch wheels will likely receive new design with additional chrome accents, which will also feature on the grille and bumper.
The Etios has always boasted a strong inside with comfortable seats affording plenty of head and legroom, upscale materials and leather, airbags front and rear, rounded out with a contemporary dashboard design with instrument cluster and infotainment. Technology features list air conditioning, plus electric side mirrors and windows.
Under the hood of the 2017 Toyota Etios, we will likely see the standard 1.5 liter engine and the 1.4 liter diesel for the sedan, while the hatchback will come equipped with a 1.2 liter petrol engine. The diesel engine offers best fuel ratings at around 45 mpg combined, delivering 67 hp with the top speed of 106 mph. The petrol powered engines are good for 90 horsepower in the sedan and 80 horsepower in the hatchback.Their fuel economy for the 2017 Toyota Etios stands at around 25 mpg combined for the 1.5l and 1.2l engine, with the former being able to reach the top speed of 112 mph, while the latter can go up to 99 mph.
