2017 Toyota Mirai – Best For Environment

The 2017 Toyota Mirai is a compact, four-door sedan powered by a fuel-cell, which should help Toyota break into the new (fuel-cell) market. The model is developed around the FCV concept car , which debuted at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. The Japanese automaker enabled the model to cover around 300 miles on a single tank of hydrogen. Furthermore, the Mirai will feature the same zero-emissions as the predecessor, which is bound to make the model appealing to all the eco-friendly drivers.

Exterior and Interior

The 2017 Toyota Mirai sports a unique futuristic styling, although there are also plenty of clues borrowed from other Toyota’s models, such as the Corolla and Prius. The bold character lines running from the headlamps to the A-Pillars, in addition to the huge air intakes sitting right behind the massive grille, is bound to make heads turn, if nothing else. Although many will take exception to the freakishly angular front as well as large rear fenders.Around back, stylish tailights are connected with a large light bar running across the trunk lid, while alloy wheels and swooping accent lines stand out on either side of the model.

Inside the cabin, flowing curves abound on the dashboard, complementing the exterior look. Also, the interior comes with a Prius-styled gauge cluster that takes up the upper section of the dash, while a large center screen features Toyota’s Entune system taking care of entertainment and navigation. The center console also includes a haptic controls panel with a digital readout for the HVAC controls. Another Prius cue comes in the shape of the electronic gear selector and push-button park.Toyota’s Entune infotainment system features GPS which will help you find a nearby hydrogen fueling station. Also, there are plenty of safety upgrades, including vehicle pre-collision, blind spot monitor, lane-departure alert, drive-start control and automatic high beams.

Powertrain

The 2017 Toyota Mirai is outfitted with a hydrogen fuel cell powerplant. The fuel cell which is the heart of the powerplant delivers an impressive 3.1 kW/L of hydrogen. The electric motor produces a total of 153 horsepower, and it has a range of 300 miles on a single tank of hydrogen. Also, the cell makes the car accelerate from a standing start to 60 mph in the time of nine seconds. That’s on par with the Prius. Fueling takes about five minutes. If you are somewhat apprehensive about the hydrogen tank, Toyota claims it is made from carbon fiber and Kevlar to ensure it stays sealed during a crash.

2017 Toyota Mirai Release Date and Price

The Toyota Mirai is expected to hit the market in the spring of 2016 with a price of a little under $45,000.
