Despite the fact it represents the second year model of the current, first generation, the 2019 Toyota C-HR comes with a couple of interesting novelties. For this occasion, the Japanese manufacturer reorganized trim levels, so there are two completely new versions in the offer now. Other than that, there is a more standard feature in base models, including smartphone integration. Rest of the crossover, which was expected, has remained the same. The 2019 Toyota C-HR continues with familiar design characteristics, offering a very attractive way of driving.
- Excellent handling
- A long list of standard equipment
- Attractive styling
- Good fuel economy
- Definitely needs more power
- Tight cargo area
- Lots of noise in the cabin
This is the smallest crossover in the company’s lineup, which sits below the RAV4. Introduced a year ago, it was pretty certain that the 2019 Toyota C-HR won’t come with too many changes, and it didn’t. It continues with familiar design characteristics, as a subcompact crossover. Like other new vehicles from Toyota, it rides on a new TNGA platform. This one significantly improves driving characteristics, compared to some previous architectures. A year after introduction, this layout is about to come in luxurious shape as well. The new Lexus UX is coming, and it will be heavily based on this small crossover. Two models will feature completely the same mechanics, while the UX is about to come with a new styling, more luxurious cabin, and more powerful engine.
While the base cabin layout continues in the same way, the biggest novelty for the 2019 Toyota C-HR is a new trim level organization. There are two new trims in the offer – LE and Limited. The LE is a new base trim, which already offers a pretty long list of standard equipment. Some of the highlights are 8-inch touchscreen, adjustable driving modes, dual-zone climate control, automatic high beams, line keeping assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control etc. A mid-range LXE adds several interesting features, such as keyless ignition and entry, leather-wrapped steering wheel, alloy wheels, as well as safety systems like a blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert. Finally, there is the Limited trim level. This is a top-level model which adds things like leather upholstery, heated seats, fog lights, automatic wipers, upgraded infotainment system, navigation and much more.
All 2019 Toyota C-HR models come with the same 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engine. This unit delivers 144 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque. Such amount of power makes the C-HR one of the slowest models in the class, with a 0-60 time around 10 seconds. On the other side, mpg ratings are pretty high. They go around 27 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway.
