Available in Japan and few more Asian countries under a different name, the Estima is one of the longest-living models you can find on the road of the land of the rising sun. This nameplate has been around since 1990 and we have seen only three generations for these 28 years. The current model has been around for a pretty long time, way too long in our opinion. It came in 2006 and it looks like it won’t receive a redesign for another couple of years either.
- Spacious cabin
- Quality interior materials
- Lots of safety features
- Outdated design
- Lacks of power
With a 12-year old design, this minivan probably wouldn’t have too much success in markets like North America, where Toyota offers a much younger and fresher Sienna model. On the other side, Japanese drivers appreciate its simplicity and amazing reliability. Also, keep in mind that there were some updates during these long 12 years. The last one happened two years ago. For that occasion, the company introduced a new styling, updated with the elements of the brand’s newest design language. The 2020 Toyota Estima will continue in the same way, features new face, with parts like new headlights, new grille, front fascia bumpers etc. Rest of the minivan, though, keeps familiar look. It comes with a common minivan shape and next year could eventually bring a few more colors to the offer.
Just like the exterior, the inside of this minivan also received novelties with the last update. Therefore, we can say that the upcoming 2020 Toyota Estima won’t be too much outdated. It comes with a quite stylish dashboard, highlighted by new color schemes and new controls. The company has also introduced a new steering wheel, the same one that can be found in newest Toyota models, with audio controls and much more. Finally, count on the company’s familiar Safety Sense suite of advanced driver aids.
This is just another aspect which won’t feature too many changes in the next year. The 2020 Toyota Estima definitely won’t be a great performer. Even the larger V6 has been dropped so the entry-level 2.4-liter inline-four remains the only choice for this reliable minivan. This familiar engine delivers around horsepower. Also, there is an older-generation hybrid powertrain in the offer, which dates from the old Lexus models from more than a decade ago. All in all, this is the aspect where Estima definitely shows its age.
2020 Toyota Estima Release Date and Price
Expect to see 2020 Toyota Estima sometime late in the next year. The next-year model won’t feature bigger changes but some reports suggest redesign already for a year after. Instead of the redesign, we could see the Sienna offered in Japan as well. The current models features a starting price of $25,000.
