Despite still being one of the class leaders, it looks like the handsome mid-size crossover is about to receive a complete overhaul soon. Available in Australia and few more countries, the Kluger is actually a rebadged version of another popular crossover, the Highlander. Two models are pretty much identical, with the biggest difference in terms of standard equipment and trim level organization. The current generation is on the market since 2013. It doesn’t seem like a period long enough to expect a redesign, but previous generations didn’t feature too long production cycles either. Therefore, the next generation of this crossover should come in a year or two, most likely as 2020 Toyota Kluger.
- Completely redesigned
- Upscale interior
- Lots of legroom
- Goof fuel economy
- Still waits for the official confirmation
Of course, the exterior design will be one of the aspects affected most with this redesign. The 2020 Toyota Kluger will be one of the last models to get the company’s new TNGA platform, which guarantees much better dynamics and overall driving characteristics. Besides completely new mechanics, the new models will come with a completely new aesthetics as well. In terms of size, it could come slightly bigger, with a couple of more inches in wheelbase and overall length. Count on the brand’s new design language, something that we’ve recently seen on the new RAV4, of course in a bigger package.
There shouldn’t be surprises in this aspect in the new 2020 Toyota Kluger. The current model already delivers amazing interior quality, with plenty of practicality and hi-grade materials. The new model will keep the same layout, offering seating for eight, with optional second-row captain’s chairs. Of course, count on a new dashboard layout, though the current one still looks amazing. This clearly indicates no radical changes, just the evolution of the dash, with slightly updated shape and newest tech features. Considering potentially bigger dimensions. We could expect slightly more legroom and cargo space as well.
2020 Toyota Kluger Engines
This is the aspect in which we expect to see slight improvements, especially when it comes to the base engine, which seems a little bit underpowered. It is a 2.7-liter unit with around 185 hp, so it won’t surprise at all to see a replacement. On the other side, a powerful V6 should carryover, possibly with minor tweaks for better efficiency. In the current model, it delivers 295 horsepower and class-average fuel economy. Finally, count on hybrid version. The current one features a V6 engine in a combination with three electric motors for a max output of 306 horsepower and class-leading fuel economy.
2020 Toyota Kluger Release Date and Price
Though we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, the 2020 Toyota Kluger should come in a year or two. We don’t expect bigger changes in price compared to the current model, which starts at $31,000.
